Cannabis Compound Identification
Common NameD-Mannose 1-phosphate
DescriptionD-Mannose 1-phosphate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as monosaccharide phosphates. These are monosaccharides comprising a phosphated group linked to the carbohydrate unit. D-Mannose 1-phosphate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). D-Mannose 1-phosphate exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. Within humans, D-mannose 1-phosphate participates in a number of enzymatic reactions. In particular, D-mannose 1-phosphate can be converted into mannose 6-phosphate through its interaction with the enzyme phosphomannomutase 1. In addition, D-mannose 1-phosphate can be converted into guanosine diphosphate mannose through its interaction with the enzyme mannose-1-phosphate guanyltransferase beta. A D-mannose 1-phosphate with an alpha-configuration at the anomeric position. In humans, D-mannose 1-phosphate is involved in the metabolic disorder called fructosuria. Outside of the human body, D-Mannose 1-phosphate has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as dills, squashberries, burdocks, tree ferns, and common hazelnuts. This could make D-mannose 1-phosphate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. D-Mannose 1-phosphate is expected to be in Cannabis as all living plants are known to produce and metabolize it.
