These are organic compounds containing a benzene ring fused to an imidazole ring (five member ring containing a nitrogen atom, 4 carbon atoms, and two double bonds). 2,5-Dimethylbenzimidazole is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa). 2,5-Dimethylbenzimidazole is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ).
