Common Name | Methylindole |

Description | 1-Methylindole, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as alkylindoles. Alkylindoles are compounds containing an indole moiety that carries an alkyl chain. 1-Methylindole is a methylated derivative of Indole. Indole is widely distributed in nature and can be produced by a variety of bacteria. As an intercellular signal molecule, indole regulates various aspects of bacterial physiology, including spore formation, plasmid stability, resistance to drugs, biofilm formation, and virulence (PMID: 20070374 ). Indole occurs naturally in human feces and has an intense fecal odor. At very low concentrations, however, it has a flowery smell, and is a constituent of many flower scents (such as orange blossoms) and perfumes. It also occurs in coal tar. 1-Methyl-indole is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ). |
