Cannabis Compound Identification
Common Name2,4-Dimethylquinazoline
Description2,4-Dimethylquinazoline or 2,4-dimethyl-1,3-diazanaphthalene is a dimethylated derivative of quinazoline in which two methyl substituents positioning at C-2 and C-4 of the pyrimidine ring. It belongs to the class of organic compounds known as quinazolines. Quinazolines are compounds containing a quinazoline moiety, which is made up of two fused six-member aromatic rings, a benzene ring and a pyrimidine ring. 2,4-Dimethylquinazoline is one of several structural isomers of dimethylquinazoline wherein two methyl groups are substituted at different positions of pyrimidine and benzene rings. 2,4-Dimethylquinazoline is a constituent of marijuana (cannabis) smoke and is formed during the combustion of cannabis ( Ref:DOI ).
