Cannabis Compound Identification
Common Namepropyl-beta-carboline
Description1-Propyl-beta-carboline or 1-propyl-2-azacarbazole, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as harmala alkaloids. Harmala alkaloids are compounds with a structure based on harmaline, harmine, harmalol, harman or a derivative of those parents. These parents are beta-carbolines, consisting of a pyrimidine fused to the pyrrole moiety of an indole to form a pyrido[3,4-b]indole. 1-Propyl-beta-carboline is a strongly basic compound. It is also classified as an alkylcarboline. 1-Propyl-beta-carboline is a propylated derivative of beta-carboline and one of several structural isomers of propyl-beta-carboline which is substituted by one propyl group at different positions. Propyl-beta-carbolines are found in marijuana smoke and are formed during the combustion of cannabis ( Ref:DOI ).
