Cannabis Compound Identification
Common Name5-ethyl-1H-imidazole
Description5-Ethylimidazole also known as 5-ethyl-1H-imidazole, an alkylimidazole- an ethylated derivative of imidazole, is one of several isomeric derivatives of imidazole that contain an ethyl substituent. It belongs to the class of organic compounds known as imidazoles. Imidazoles are compounds containing an imidazole ring, which is an aromatic five-member ring with two nitrogen atoms at positions 1 and 3, and three carbon atoms. Imidazole is a white or colourless solid that soluble in water. 5-Ethyl-imidazole is a strong basic compound. 5-Ethylimidazole is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ).
