Cannabis Compound Identification
Common Name3,5-Diethylpyridine
Description3,5-Diethylpyridine, a diethylated derivative of pyridine, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyridines and derivatives. Pyridines and derivatives are compounds containing a pyridine ring, which is a six-member aromatic heterocycle which consists of one nitrogen atom and five carbon atoms. 3,5-diethylpyridine is a strong basic compound. Pyridine is a highly flammable, weakly alkaline, water-miscible liquid with a distinctive, unpleasant fish-like smell. Pyridine is colorless, but older or impure samples can appear yellow. 3,5-Diethylpyridine is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ).
