Cannabis Compound Identification
Common Name2,6-Diethylpyridine
Description2,6-Diethylpyridine, a diethylated derivative of pyridine, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyridines and derivatives. Pyridines and derivatives are compounds containing a pyridine ring, which is a six-member aromatic heterocycle which consists of one nitrogen atom and five carbon atoms. 2,6-diethylpyridine is a weakly basic compound. Pyridine is a highly flammable, weakly alkaline, water-miscible liquid with a distinctive, unpleasant fish-like smell. Pyridine is colorless, but older or impure samples can appear yellow. 2,6-Diethylpyridine is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ).
