Description2-Ethyl-5-methyl-pyrimidine, an alkylated derivative of pyrimidine, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyrimidines and pyrimidine derivatives. Pyrimidines and pyrimidine derivatives are compounds containing a pyrimidine ring, which is a six-member aromatic heterocycle which consists of two nitrogen atoms (at positions 1 and 3) and four carbon atoms. 2-Ethyl-5-methylpyrimidine is a strong basic compound. 2-Ethyl-5-methyl-pyrimidine is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ).
