Cannabis Compound Identification
Common Name4-Ethyl pyridine
Description4-Ethyl pyridine, an ethylated derivative of pyridine, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyridines and derivatives. Pyridines and derivatives are compounds containing a pyridine ring, which is a six-member aromatic heterocycle which consists of one nitrogen atom and five carbon atoms. 4-Ethyl pyridine is a strong base, a colorless to pale yellow clear liquid that is soluble in alcohol. It was detected in pork. Pyridine is a highly flammable, weakly alkaline, water-miscible liquid with a distinctive, unpleasant fish-like smell. Pyridine is colorless, but older or impure samples can appear yellow. 4-Ethyl pyridine is formed during the combustion of cannabis and is therefore a constituent of cannabis smoke ( Ref:DOI ).
