Description2,3,4-Trimethylpentane belongs to the class of organic compounds known as branched alkanes. These are acyclic branched hydrocarbons having the general formula CnH2n+2. Thus, 2,3,4-trimethylpentane is considered to be a hydrocarbon lipid molecule. 2,3,4-Trimethylpentane is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble in water, and relatively neutral. 2,3,4-Trimethylpentane may be a unique S. cerevisiae (yeast) metabolite. 2,3,4-Trimethylpentane is a potentially toxic compound. 2,3,4-Trimethylpentane is a trimethylated derivative of pentane. Pentane is an alkane tasting compound. Pentane found in kohlrabis, celery stalks, and soybeans. Pentane is a central nervous system depressant and can cause loss of consciousness and coma at high doses. Ingestion may cause pulmonary toxicity due to pentane aspiration, including chemical pneumonitis, acute lung injury, and hemorrhage.
