Description | 2-Ethyl-1-hexanol, also known as Xi-2-ethyl-1-hexanol, is primary alcohol and it belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty alcohols. These are aliphatic alcohols consisting of a chain of a least six carbon atoms. 2-Ethyl-1-hexanol is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble in water, and relatively neutral. 2-Ethyl-1-hexanol is a sweet, citrus, and floral tasting compound. 2-Ethyl-1-hexanol can be found, on average, in the highest concentration in corns and peppermints but it has also been detected in several different foods, such as cucumbers, evergreen blackberries, rabbiteye blueberries, sweet cherries, and tea. 2-Ethyl-1-hexanol has also been found in the volatile fraction of Cannabis sativa samples obtained from police seizures (PMID: 26657499 ). |
